Diabetes mellitus, usually referred to as just diabetes, is a chronic metabolic illness in which the sufferer is in a state of high blood sugar. This is either because his body does not produce enough insulin to help with sugar metabolism, or because the body is not responding properly to the insulin which is being produced.
